3D photographs of Hastings in the 19th Century

Town Hall, Queens Road, Hastings 10.30 am 2 pm
Peter Cresswell has invented a viewer which enables a 19th century stereo photograph to be seen on a large scale. Hastings was extensively photographed at the time because Hastings was a centre for early photography. The stereo card, (two small photographs on a card) was viewed with a small hand-held viewer and was a popular novelty in the second half of the century. The new viewer takes these high quality images and re-presents them on a large scale so that they can really be brought to life. The devices which are non-electronic and use ambient light, are a way of peering into the past which, by adding depth and an opportunity to roam around, adds an experience which is significantly different from viewing a conventional photograph.
