MONSTER's DRUMS  - MONSTER ( Martin Poole) - Captain of Drums & Publicity  TELLS US MORE .....

Monsters Drums are the percussion section of Hastings Borough Bonfire Society. All members of Monsters Drums are also members of HBBS. In fact, to be a drummer you MUST be a member of the bonfire society.

We were formed in September 1998 and our first public appearance was at Hastings bonfire last October.. Since then we have performed in many street processions throughout Sussex as guests of various other bonfire societies. The number of drummers varies from a dozen or so, to almost forty on occasions, depending on who is available on the day.

Our costume consists of black tailcoats & top hats adorned with ribbons in HBBS colours. Some drummers also wear a "stripy" jumper which is also in HBBS colours. We also wear black trousers and black face paint.

The instruments used range from tambourrines and bodhrams to floor toms and bass drums. Anybody who can play a beat and keep in time is welcome to join in, as long as they are in costume.

The main pleasure in playing in a procession comes from seeing the audience enjoying the music, dancing and cheering us on. So when you see us go past, give us a loud cheer!

New members are always welcome, please see our website for details, www.hastings-bonfire.co.uk
