Local historian, Brion Purdey on ‘Churches and Chapels of Tressell’s Hastings’

Speakers on the history of the Co-operative movement and Tressell in Ireland

Christine Coates from London Metropolitan University will be demonstrating the TUC manuscript website of ‘The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists’

1-2pm Lunch break (please note that there are no refreshment facilities at the museum)

2pm onwards-starting point will be confirmed during morning session

11am Steve Stevenson from Ex-P&O Strikers, on the continuing battle to redress the wrongs and injustices which were imposed on the sacked seafarers, and their Early Day Motion campaign.

12 noon Steve Huggins, Branch Secretary of Hastings Fire Brigades Union on the recent pay and conditions dispute.

1pm Les Sweeting from the Justice for Mineworkers Campaign on 20 years since the strike.

Following a short break, Tressell expert Trevor Hopper will lead his popular Tressell walk through Hastings, to meet up with Steve Peak, our local historian, at Ladies Parlour on the West Hill. Steve will then give his visual history of Hastings from the top of the hill. The GMB minibus will be available to assist those who have difficulty walking to the site.

If we have been able to book further speakers who cannot be accommodated into the above programme, we will meet up again at the Sussex Room following the Tressell walk. Refreshments will be available all day in the bar.
