Robert Tressell Festival 2013

A one-day festival is being organised for 13th July at the University of Brighton's Hastings Campus - Priory Square behind the main Post Office - a prestigious new venue near Hastings Town Centre and only five minutes from Hastings Railway Station. Details will be published here as soon as they are confirmed. Refreshments will be provided and there will be a charge for the day (subsidised by the Tressell Society). Numbers will, unfortunately, be limited so booking as soon as details are published is recommended. Email tressell@1066.net and we will keep you informed. The event will take place in the conference centre on the top floor with spectacular views over Tressell's Hastings - photo below, taken 12th July

The planned programme for the day is as follows:

1000-1030: Welcome and refreshments

1030-1115: Popular local historian, Brion Purdey on 'Hastings in Tressell's Time: an illustrated talk'

1115-1200: Martin Chomsky, on 'The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists in the New Millenium'

1200-1230: Open discussion forum

1230-1330: Lunch

1330-1430: Irralie Doel on 'Teaching Tressell in Liverpool'

1430-1530: Local author, Ann Kramer on 'The women's movement in Tressell's time'

1530-1615: Tea and final open discussion

16:15: Assemble for the Robert Tressell Walk around famous Hastings landmarks associated with the author, to be led by Dr Trevor Hopper, Open University and author of 'Robert Tressell's Hastings'

We shall finish the day with a drink at the FILO pub in the Old Town.
