Saturday, 8 th July

10.30 Festival opens. Light refreshments available all day.

11.00 The development of St Leonards. Local history talk by Brion Purdey.

12.00 Talk by Charles Callan, Irish writer and historian, President of the Irish History Society

2.30 KEYNOTE SPEAKER, MARK SERWOTKA, GENERAL SECRETARY, PCS

4.00 Billy Hayes, General Secretary, CWU
A discussion on the re-forming of a local Trades Council will follow

5 - 6 Bernard McGinley will talk about Grant Richards and the Tressell manuscript

Other speakers to be announced

Saturday evening : 6-9pm Light supper and SOCIALIST QUIZ. Licensed bar.

9.30 Re-enactment of SDF rally on Hastings Beach, opp. Cosmo. Dress up in period costume and be prepared to heckle.

10.45 Festival opened by Nick Hempleman from the Co-operative Group (South East) . Light refreshments available all day.

11.00 The history of banners and banner making, by Ed Hall. There will also be the chance to make a banner to mark the centenary of the beginning of Tressell's work on ‘The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists' There will also be a display of Banners, Trade Union, marching, friendly society etc. - BRING YOUR OWN BANNERS! (but let us know first so that we can make sure there's space to display)

2.30 The famous Tressell Walk, with Dr Trevor Hopper, University of Sussex

MEET AT DEBENHAMS, ROBERTSON STREET, HASTINGS

THROUGHOUT THE WEEKEND A SPECIAL EXHIBITION OF PART OF THE FRED BALL ARCHIVE AND OTHER TRESSELL DOCUMENTS WILL BE ON SHOW, TOGETHER WITH VIDEOS, TAPES ETC OF PROGRAMMES AND FILMS MADE ABOUT TRESSELL AND HIS WORK
